Miami has always attracted the rich and famous, looking for a great time at the clubs or searching for some incredible food at one of the world-class restaurants. Outside of California, it might just be one of the most glamorous places in the world, and the place you are most likely to see movie stars. If you want to get a taste for the town before the 2018 ISAPS Congress, we highly suggest you check out some of these movies and TV shows that took place in Miami Beach and the surrounding area!
When most people think about TV shows set in Miami, they instantly think of the classic 80s show Miami Vice. This show made the architecture of South Beach famous, regularly featuring the Art Deco style of many local Miami buildings.
Miami Vice was filmed in the 1980s, a time that was notoriously difficult for Miami Beach. The entire city was so run down and empty that the cast and crew could often shoot in the middle of the street during the day with no interruptions. Thankfully, this soon changed in the late 80s as an influx of cash and investments revitalized Miami Beach and made it into the stunning vacation location it is today!
You can also get a more modern-day view of Miami Beach in the 2006 film adaption by the same name.
The first sequel to The Fast and the Furious, 2 Fast 2 Furious builds on everything that made the original so great, creating a super high-octane blockbuster that soon became one of the most successful movie franchises in recent history.
Filmed all over Miami, including Miami Beach, 2 Fast 2 Furious is a great film to watch if you want to see a glamorous view of the streets by way of illegal drag racing (something we recommend avoiding during your stay in Miami Beach for the Congress!)
A more recent TV show about fighting crime in Miami, Burn Notice is about a CIA agent who is mysteriously “burned,” which is sort of like being fired (except that all of your assets are frozen and you are classified as an unreliable or potentially dangerous agent!) Stuck in his old hometown of Miami, the former agent becomes a private investigator, helped by his ex-girlfriend, his best buddy, and his aging mother.
Although there are a few episodes of Burn Notice that take place in Miami Beach, the show highlights the entire city of Miami as well, giving you a pretty good overview of the area.
One of the most recent big-budget movies to film in Miami Beach was this adaptation of the classic 90s TV series, Baywatch. Starring Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) and Zac Efron, this film will, unsurprisingly, give you a great look at the beaches of South Beach before you arrive for the Congress. Trust us, they're really something to look forward to!
A remake of the classic French farce, La Cage aux Folles, The Birdcage stars Robin Williams as the owner of a drag bar in South Beach, circa mid-90s.
Aside from being absolutely hilarious, the Birdcage will also give you a fun, if somewhat exaggerated, look at a specific section of the Miami Beach nightlife. Plus, you can’t beat a Robin Williams performance!
All of these movies and TV shows are entertaining, but they’re nothing compared to the time that you’ll have when you arrive in Miami Beach for the 2018 ISAPS Congress. That is, if you’ve already booked your spot! It’s closer than you think, and space at the Congress is filling up fast. Book ASAP and don’t forget to arrange your accommodations at our host hotel, the Loews Miami Beach Hotel. In just a few more weeks, the largest aesthetics conference in the world will be the biggest show in town, so be sure that you will be in attendance!
